New Bethlehem Pennsylvania was the home to a distillery called New Bethlehem Brewing Company from 1908-1915 (New Bethlehem Brewing Co – PA 341A: Old breweries information: Breweriana values.). When the prohibition became active in the 1920s, the brewing company discontinued its production. The company sold to H.B. Deviney company and shipped the brewing equipment to Japan (New Bethlehem Borough (Chap. 61). (2024). H.B. Deviney made the building into a peanut butter factory, producing the product for the military during WWII, called the Kitchen King Peanut Butter factory (The History Project [Review of The History Project].). Smucker’s purchased the Kitchen King Peanut Butter factory in 1965, then producing Smucker’s peanut butter.
To this day, Smucker’s peanut butter factory in New Bethlehem PA holds 60 jobs for the 969 population borough.
For 28 years, the peanut butter factory has been holding an annual festival including a parade, shows, activities, music, and more! Check out the 28th annual parade for family fun. Check out the festivities to support your favorite peanut butter company and your favorite borough!
